Stairs in the colour of the floor,
as if cut from one block.
Treads, risers and skirtings in one surface, joined to the floor downstairs and upstairs. On concrete stairs and, after proper preparation, on timber ones.

A detail seen from the whole house
Stairs are the most sculptural element of an interior. Microcement brings out their form, and sharing the colour of the floor makes both storeys read as one space. The step edges matter most, and we reinforce and finish them with great care.
Continuity with the floor
The same colour and texture on floor and stairs, with no change of material.
Reinforced edges
Step edges get extra reinforcement because they take the most knocks.
Grip
We choose the sealer for the traffic on the stairs.

How we do it
- 1
Structure check
We check that the stairs are stable and that timber does not move.
- 2
Preparation
Repairs, primer and reinforcing mesh, plus a stiffening layer on timber.
- 3
Microcement
Treads, risers and edges as one surface.
- 4
Protection
A sealer with good grip and guidance on when the stairs can be used.
Questions and answers
Are microcement stairs slippery?
They do not have to be. On stairs we use a finish with more grip than on walls.
Can timber stairs be covered?
Yes, if the structure is rigid. Timber moves, so stiffening layers and reinforcement are needed.
How long do stairs take?
Usually a few working days. The stairs are out of use for part of that time, so we plan the order of work with the household.
